home based conductor

Hi i live in Bradford, West Yorkshire, my daughter is turning 13 in January she has CP Athetoid, she is a bright girl. when she was little i started taking her to CE sessions but she would get tired cry alot and get very upset, seeing her like that made me feel like i was a bad mom, which made me think why am i putting her through this, because all i have ever heard is children with CP cant get better or worse, she was only 18months old when i started taking her, i heard about amino acid treatment and even took her to cyprus, we tried two courses and didnt see any difference.

when we were attending CE i heard that conductors sometimes do home based CE, i would really like to hear from anyone who knows more about this, how i can employ a CE, how much it costs.  do they only do live in or do they come for daily sessions.

please help me , my daughter is not getting no physio and her hip is moving out of place due to her condition, i think she needs to move around a bit to get her limbs working. i would love to hear from anyone who has tried homebased CE or knows of anyone that does it.

Thank you for reading

We hired a conductor to come

We hired a conductor to come into our home.  We live in Canada, so finding a conductor willing to live-in was a challenge.  On 2 occasions, we hired a conductor to work in home - 4 weeks in the summer - 6 hours a day, 5 days per week.  We covered all costs for visa, travel, meals, etc plus salary.  The progress was amazing.  We have also gone out to 4 week summer group programs.  Again amazing progress in such a short period of time.

My daughter turns 13 in April.  Thanks to CE and a conductor that opened our eyes to the future, our daughter can walk unaided, dress/feed herself, toilet, etc.  When we started CE, my daughter would throw the biggest tantrums.  She would cry/scream/pinch/bite/bang her head/throw herself on the floor, etc.  Once we realized that children (and adults) take the path of least resistance, we found that we were partly to blame for the tantrums.  It was easier to give in to a screaming child, than allow the child to figure out how to properly communicate.  It was easier to pick the child up and carry her, then allow her to slowly walk herself.  Our conductor Andi, kindly pointed out a bleak future if we didn't change how we reacted.  Once we changed, then so did our daughter.   Now, I always ask myself this question when my daughter behaves in a way I don't like - If she didn't have Cerebral Palsy, would I let her behave like this?  If the answer is No, then I don't allow it.

How mobile is your daughter?  Is she walking?  Does she go to school?  How does she spend her day?

Hi, thanks for your post, wow

Hi, thanks for your post, wow that is brilliant to hear your daughters progress i wish her well for the future too.  my daughter is a happy girl she throws tantrums with me i guess being a single parent made me see her as my one and only so everytime she was tired i just let her go, i wouldnt push her and i guess i still dont, she 13 in january and weighs only 22kg, she hardly attends school because she's tired most of the time, she wakes up 2/3 times in the night and this just adds to her tiredness.

she has very poor trunk control, can not walk or sit unaided, however she can weight bear and i sometimes get her to stand up so i can handle her better, shes very bright if i get her to do things she works really hard, all day she spends in front of tv or in kitchen with me, shes not interested in doing much, loves family and people around her.  i believe in discpline and she knows what i will tolorate and not, im not just saying this becuase she's my daughter but she is alovely girl and is widely known in the community for her gorgeous smiles and lovely disposition.

when she was little i would get her to take steps but since she has grown tall i cant do it anymore, im a single parent and live alone, i suffer from backachs now,

you said your daughter can now do things for herself, when did you start her CE at home? how much did it cost?
